Three youths arrested as firefighters attacked in Keighley
10:00am Friday 8th March 2013 in News
Three youths were arrested following a Bonfire Night attack on firefighters in Keighley, a new report has revealed.
The document, presented to a meeting of West Yorkshire Fire Authority, said the attack was among three that night in Bradford district the police had to attend.
“In Keighley, this resulted in the arrest of three youths, who were held overnight in cells,” the report stated.
“While none of the cases has led to a prosecution, there have been no further attacks in these areas.”
The report said in a nine-month period, a total of ten incidents had been recorded by fire crews.
One involved a shooting with a ballbearing gun and the others were related to missiles, such as rocks and fireworks, being thrown.
The meeting heard the number of attacks across West Yorkshire Fire Service’s area had fallen, with 31 incidents reported during nine months.
But the report added: “There is a danger the frequency and severity of just 31 attacks out of 25,821 attendances may seem insignificant, and although the number of attacks on firefighters has reduced, the Chief Fire Officer has re-emphasised even one attack is one too many, and that every assistance and encouragement will be given to the police to bring offenders to court. Work is continuing with a variety of agencies to address these issues.”
