Young people from a Lawkholme community centre plan to shine in a competition for young entrepreneurs.

They are decorating glass candle holders for their entry into the annual Market Challenge contest organised by Bradford Council.

They hope to raise as much money as possible by selling various kinds of holder – complete with candles – in Bradford this summer.

Girls from Keighley Asian Women and Children’s Centre are decorating the holders, while boys are designing pictures on canvas.

The 12 to 18-year-olds hope both products will prove more popular than items made by competing youth groups and schools across the district.

Youth worker, Naelah Shahzad, said the six youngsters had adopted the name Versatile Arts.

She added: “They were all interested in doing something creative.

“They have worked on their ideas since Christmas, and did a pitch in front of a ‘Dragons’ Den’ at Hallmark Cards in Bradford.”

Versatile Arts will sell their goods at the Darley Street market on July 6.
