I strongly concur with the concerns expressed by Andrew Spence and his family residing in Ashbourne Road – Tragedy fears of ‘rat-run’ (Keighley News, May 23). We live at the top of Bracken Bank Avenue, and since the introduction of speed cameras in Oakworth Road, the estate has become an alternative route of some of the most dangerous drivers in Keighley.
These motorists drive down Goose Cote Lane past our home at shocking speeds, and it is common for us to hear vehicles screeching to a halt to avoid other vehicles.
Last year, a motorist lost control of his vehicle and it crashed into the bus stop used by the Oxenhope service. My husband witnessed the incident and telephoned the police, but they appeared disinterested. It was clear that anyone standing at the bus stop when the incident took place was at serious risk of injury. To be honest, the statement ‘Bracken Bank estate is a 20 mile per hour zone’ should start with the small but significant clarification of ‘allegedly’.
