You’ve gotta get to Greggs if you want to offer your services as a volunteer!

A free cuppa will be given to anyone who goes along to a Volunteers’ Week information morning on Wednesday.

Several organisations that recruit volunteers will have stalls outside the Airedale Shopping Centre branch of the bakery.

The event, which runs from 10am to 2pm inside the shopping centre, is being organised by Keighley Volunteer Centre (KVC).

The charity is the local ‘one-stop shop’ for anyone hoping to become a volunteer, as well as organisations wishing to recruit more helpers.

Manager Gary Pedley said KVC was able to find volunteer work to suit a wide variety of interests.

He added: “We currently support 300 volunteer-involved organisations, and we have more than 500 on our books volunteering.

“They range from supporting children to walking dogs. We hope to match people to what they like. We also support organisations recruiting volunteers and ensure good practice.”

Mr Pedley said Volunteer Centre staff will showcase a selection of volunteering opportunities during the information morning.

He added: “They can see what’s available. They can talk to an advisor about how they can get involved, and the benefits of volunteering.”

Volunteers’ Week runs from Saturday to June 7, and aims to celebrate the contribution made by millions of volunteers across the UK.

Organisers say that every year more than 20 million people across the UK volunteer, donating more than 100 million hours to their communities every week.

It has been estimated the economic value of the activity is worth more than £40 billion to the economy.
