A UFO spotted above Culling-worth has sparked memories of other sightings.

Last week we reported how a mysterious, cigarette-shaped object had been witnessed hovering over the village.

Following the incident, Michael Williams, now 57, recalled how as a child, he saw a similar phenomenon in the skies above Keighley.

Mr Williams, of Victoria Road, was in the playground of the former Swire Smith School aged 12 when he sighted the object.

“The thing was cigar-shaped and hovering over the town,” said Mr Williams.

“It was silver covered – a bit like a rocket – and above the Low Mill Lane area. It was only there for a brief moment before it disappeared. Still to this day I don’t know what it was.”

About two decades later – in the 1980s – when he was living at Parkwood Rise in Keighley, Mr Williams had another out-of-this-world experience.

“I saw an object above Park Wood – it had a sort of bluish glow to it,” he said. “There are definitely things out there that can’t be explained.”

Nigel Hopkinson, also of Keighley, told us of a sighting he made about 20 years ago.

“I was living in Cullingworth at the time and was out walking my dog at about 5am one day when I saw this thing hovering motionless in the sky,” he said. “That was shaped like a cigarette and had a glowing red/green light. After a minute, it just disappeared. It definitely wasn’t a plane.”
