Villagers are being urged to turn out in force to support their local gala.

The Riddlesden event this year celebrates its 30th anniversary and profits will be donated to the village’s uniformed groups.

Gala chairman Geoffrey Baldwin said: “They support us each year by taking part in the procession and having activities at the field, so this time we thought it would be nice to do something for them.

“Last year’s gala was very wet - although we still managed to raise £1,800 - so this year we are hoping for better weather and as many people as possible to come along and support us.

“There is a packed afternoon of activities planned.”

The gala - next Saturday, June 8 - will begin as usual with the procession, which will set off from the Marquis of Granby pub car park in Granby Lane at 1pm.

Led by the City of Bradford Pipe Band, it will make its way along Granby Drive, Bar Lane, Bradford Road and Grange Road to the village primary school.

The parade will include the Silsden All Star majorettes, a samba band, walking floats and fancy dress entrants.

Attractions in the school grounds will include model train rides, roundabouts, inflatable slides, a bouncy castle, stalls, games and refreshments.

And there will be performances from the bands and majorettes and the school’s cheerleaders.

Inside the school there will be entertainment from Joze School of Dance and Keighley Amateurs’ Junior Singing Club, and people will be able to enjoy a tearoom.

Admission to the gala is 50p for adults and 30p for children.
