The Annie Driver charity no. 529484 is awarded each year to promising ex-pupils of Cowling Primary School who are either already receiving or are about to receive full-time further education. Contact the headmaster at Cowling County Primary School for information and application forms well in advance of the end of the summer term.

A short reopening ceremony will take place on Sunday at noon after the refurbishment of the coronation shelter in Gill Lane by Chris Cowgill. June 2 is exactly 60 years from the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II and the shelter was built to commemorate this occasion by the late Gerald Hall and Squire Jackson who worked for Sam Gott and Sons local builders. Mrs. Betty Bestall, daughter of Gerald, will perform the ceremony and Maurice Jackson, son of Squire, will also be present.

The next meeting of Cowling Parish Council will be held on Monday at 7pm at St Andrews Methodist Church, and the monthly drop-in session for councillors to receive residents’ queries will be held the same day from 11am to noon at the Drystone Cafe.

There are a few seats left for the Cowling Companions’ trip to Lotherton Hall and gardens on Wednesday, June 26, leaving Cowling at 9.30am and Cross Hills at 9.40am. The price is £13 for members and £15 for non-members. Names to Mona on 01535 632023. The next Companions drop-in will be on June 5 at 1.35pm, where names can also be given and fares paid.
