Work has started on the new play area in Holden Park and will hopefully be finished in six weeks. When it is complete, there will be a grand opening event on Sunday June 30. The next task for the group will be to raise money to create a games area on the old tennis courts, so if you have any fundraising ideas, let one of the committee know. We also hope to put in place an exercise trail and assault course in the woods and at the top end of the park. Obviously, all this costs a lot of money, so please donate whenever you can. Fundraising events planned so far are a ceilidh and a Gardeners Question Time. More details will be available later.

On Sunday July 21, the committee at the Village Hall are once again organising an Open Gardens and Scarecrow competition. The one held last year proved very popular, so it is hoped that there will be more entries this year. Any gardens can be entered, they can be just looked at over the garden wall or if larger, open. The morning service of Holy Communion at Long Lee Methodist Chapel on Sunday was led by the Reverend Nevill Richardson. As it was Trinity Sunday, this was the theme for the service and was reflected in the choice of hymns, Bible readings (by Adrian Moore) and prayers. In his sermon the minister, spoke about The Trinity and how to understand it, we had to go back to the beginning of time and try to understand how things have evolved since then.

The Reverend Jonathan Pritchard was the celebrant at the sung Parish Communion at St Barnabas Parish Church on Trinity Sunday. Readers were Margaret Anstey, Carl Pybus and Jill Dodsworth who also administered the chalice. Rod Ticker preached on how the teaching of the Trinity helped us to understand the power and stability of God. Intercessions were led by Billy Clayton and organist was Edna Huggett.
