Faiths join forces at Ramadan meal in Keighley
1:40pm Saturday 10th August 2013 in News
Dozens of people attended a Ramadan evening meal organised to bring together Muslims and non-Muslims.
The event in Central Hall in Alice Street was arranged by Ash Alom, of the All Keighley Communities Together project.
Nearly 50 people enjoyed a meal and had a chance to ask questions about the Muslim holy month of Ramadan and about Islam in general.
Mr Alom said: “It was great to see so many people there from so many different walks of life.
“And as a Muslim, it was a privilege to have the opportunity to share something of such importance. It’s vital all of us consider what we can do to improve relations between people in the town.”
The food was provided by Northern Leaf Catering.
Mr Alom added volunteers from Keighley’s Shahjalal Mosque will be distributing sweets in the Airedale Shopping Centre to celebrate the Muslim festival of Eid-ul-Fitr.
He said it was most likely Eid will be celebrated today (August 8), adding volunteers will be present for an hour from about 11.30am. He thanked the shopping centre’s management for supporting the initiative.
