Police investigate attempted abduction of boy, 11, at Cross Hills
8:20am Wednesday 14th August 2013 in News
Police are investigating the attempted abduction of a boy in Cross Hills.
Officers say the 11-year-old was walking with a friend along Holme Lane, near South Craven School, when the incident occurred on Wednesday, July 24, between 6pm and 6.30pm.
They were passing a silver or white Ford Transit, with either tinted or taped up windows, when a man in the van opened the side door and attempted to grab the 11-year-old. However he and his friend managed to run off.
“I would urge parents and children to be vigilant,” said Sgt Paul Taylor. “I would also remind all children to always tell their parents where they are going and at what time they will return. Never accept lifts from strangers and do not speak to people you do not know. If in doubt scream and shout and make as much noise as possible.”
It is believed there were three occupants in the van.
Anyone with information is asked to contact PC James Dykes at Cross Hills Police Station on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111, quoting incident reference 12130129864.
