As I have to travel to various hospitals, my husband and I often find we are in need of a taxi as parking is always a problem at certain times of the day.

Unfortunately, we have had experiences with some firms – not Keighley Metro, I hasten to say; it has always provided a good service.

However, we have also had to travel in some so-called taxis that were dirty, with soiled covers and obviously well past their best. In one car, the seatbelt retainer had disappeared into the sunken seat and was almost impossible to fasten. We have also had experience of a young driver who seemed to be lost on a return journey from Leeds.

There is a major problem also for young drivers. Their insurance is already very high because they are the most likely to be involved in an accident. Do people want to travel with that risk?

Existing taxi drivers have to pay extremely high rates to cover their passengers. How can a teenager possibly find cover, even if they could be employed?
