A Keighley mosque could soon undergo major refurbishment to deal with its growing congregation.
Plans have been submitted for alterations to the interior of the Shah Jalal Jame Mosque in Temple Row that would see its under-used upper floor used for worship.
Partition walls and corridors would be demolished to open up more space.
The listed building consent application to Bradford Council says: “During the Friday congregational prayer, Eid and other special occasions, the main prayer hall downstairs, together with what space they can use upstairs, cannot accommodate the current overall number of worshippers.”
Some pews on the first floor will be removed and “found a suitable home in a building where they can be used as part of a lecture hall or similar function.”
