Cononley dad who punched teen is sentenced
9:00am Friday 11th October 2013 in News
A 47-year-old Cononley father who punched a teenager after he refused to stop swinging on his gate has been ordered to pay him compensation by Skipton magistrates.
Nicholas Barker twice hit the boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, after he turned up at his house in Aireside Avenue with two younger boys on January 4.
The teenager was said to have suffered from hearing problems following the assault and had struggled with exams.
Barker, who had no previous convictions, originally denied assault, but changed his plea to guilty ahead of the trial.
Sentencing was adjourned from July for reports, but because Barker had a medical condition unlikely to improve for some months, a report was not possible.
Magistrates decided on Friday to go ahead with sentencing, ordering Barker to pay compensation of £260 to his victim.
