Services cancelled as train hits sheep near Silsden
1:14pm Thursday 10th October 2013 in News
Several sheep were hit by a train near Silsden on Tuesday causing services to and from Bradford to be cancelled.
The 4.01pm train between Skipton and Bradford hit some of the 50-strong flock that had wandered onto the line at Cononley.
A Northern Rail spokesman said the train was damaged in the crash and had to be taken out of service at Skipton.
Services cancelled included the 4.44pm from Bradford Forster Square to Ilkley, the 5.10pm from Leeds to Forster Square, the 5.21pm from Ilkley to Forster Square, and the 6.01pm from Forster Square to Leeds.
The spokesman added: “The line was open, but because we had taken a train out of action, some services had to be cancelled. A couple of sheep are still in the vicinity, so services were warned to be careful.”
Other services were also delayed because trains were running at reduced speed near the scene of the incident.
