Long-standing Oakworth drainage problems to be resolved

An end is in sight to long-standing drainage problems in Oldfield Lane near Oakworth.
Bradford councillors in the Worth Valley ward this week revealed Bradford Council plans to finally take action.
Councillors Glen Miller, Rebecca Poulsen and Russell Brown have received assurances the council is committed to resolving the problem.
Coun Glen Miller, leader of the council’s Conservative group, said residents had complained about a variety of drainage problems.
He added: “Outside Oldfield School, the gullies were overflowing during periods of heavy rainfall, and the sheer volume of the water has been eroding the gutter. Another part of the road had a hole in it, with water pouring out when it was raining heavily.”
He added: “After lengthy investigations, they have now ascertained the drain along Oldfield Lane has a number of defects, which is best resolved by the complete replacement rather than the repair of a 70-metre stretch of drain.
“This is a sizeable piece of work that offers a more comprehensive response, which should see the problems alleviated. The council has committed to doing it in the next couple of months.”
