Updated plan to protect Keighley town centre conservation area
2:20pm Thursday 10th October 2013 in News
An updated plan to protect Keighley’s heritage will go before Bradford Council today when councillors will hear what the public have to think of the proposals.
Throughout July and August, the public was asked for its input on the Keighley Town Centre Conserv-ation Area, which includes much of North Street. The area is currently in the middle of a process to restore it to its former Victorian splendour, with work to improve the appearance of many prominent buildings with money available through a Heritage Lottery grant.
Properties improved so far include the former police station, now the town’s civic centre.
Residents living in and around the conservation area and businesses operating there were asked for their comments, which the council has not made public.
But the comments have been released to members of the council’s Regulatory and Appeals Committee, who will be asked to endorse the most up-to-date assessment. This will determine what changes can be made to the area and what needs to be done to protect it.
The conservation area was last updated more than five years ago.
