Khalid’s Desi is the winner of the coveted Keighley News Restaurant of the Year title.
The Kashmiri restaurant in Low Mill Lane, Keighley, beat off competition from five other outlets to take the much sought-after award.
Thousands of readers voted for their favourite through coupons in the newspaper, by phone or text.
Nabeel Khalid, 21, manager of Khalid’s, said they were delighted to win. “It was unexpected but I was really chuffed,” he added.
“We have only been open for a year, but the response from the public during that time has been excellent – we have a very good customer base and we are grateful to everyone for their support.
“To win this is great. It is our first award, but hopefully the first of many!”
Other contenders were Shimla Spice, Amici and Azeems in Keighley, the Waggon & Horses at Oxenhope and the Bronte Hotel in Haworth.
Keighley News editor Richard Parker said: “Congratulations go not only to the winner but to all the restaurants involved. It was a phenomenal response from readers who voted in their droves.”
