Trees for new wood at North Beck, Keighley
1:10pm Friday 25th October 2013 in News
Up to 4,000 trees will be planted on the banks of the North Beck to begin the creation of a new public wood.
More than £7,000 from the Big Tree Plant fund will provide trees for the scrubland near Guard House allotments.
Planting will kick off Keighley Town Council’s plans to transform the seven-acre site, which is currently a target for fly-tippers.
Keighley and Ilkley Voluntary and Community Action is looking into opportunities for vocational training, enterprise and other environmental improvements.
Councillor Brian Morris, who is leading the project, said the Big Tree Plant funding would only be the start.
He added: “We want to make it a woodland area where kids from the schools can go for open-air classrooms.”
The first trees are expected to be planted on December 14.
