Keighley firefighters set to join latest national walk out
Firefighters in Keighley are set to stage another walk out as part of a national strike.
The Fire Brigades Union (FBU) announced today its members would strike between 6.30pm and 11pm next Friday, November 1, and from 6am to 8am on Monday, November 4.
The union is fighting plans to increase employee pensions contributions and impose a pension age of 60. Currently the age is 55, but firefighters can retire earlier if they have 25 years' service.
A four-hour walk out was held last month.
West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Authority said today it was committed to protecting public safety and had contingency measures in place to provide cover.
But chief fire officer Simon Pilling warned the strikes were taking place during the busy pre-Bonfire Night period and added: “We are asking members of the public to be extra vigilant and careful as a reduced level of emergency response will be inevitable.”
