Keighley’s Christmas lights switch-on next month is set to be one of the biggest and brightest yet.

A star performer from the hit TV show the X Factor will entertain the crowds and help flick the switch.

And there will be a host of other attractions across the town centre.

The line-up at the November 24 extravaganza will include teenage singer-songwriter Declan Vink, winner of the Airedale Unsigned talent contest staged by the Airedale Shopping Centre in the summer.

There will also be children’s entertainers, face painting, musicians, choirs, fairground rides and market stalls, and Pulse Radio will be present.

Activities will take place in the Airedale Centre, Church Green and Royal Arcade.

Events will begin at about 11am and the switch-on will take place at 4.30pm.

Steve Seymour, Airedale Centre manager, told us: “For the past two years we have provided an X Factor star and they have been extremely popular. At the moment we are still negotiating so don’t know yet who it will be.

“We are looking at running a competition for people to guess who the star will be, to win a one-to one meeting with the person.

“There is a lot lined up for this year’s event, including a few surprises.

“Over the past three years we have seen a steady growth in the number of people attending and I’m confident this year it will be even bigger.”

Pre-Christmas late-night shopping in the centre will be launched the following Thursday, November 28.
