Vandals who daubed dog mess on children’s play equipment in Long Lee have been branded “sick-minded” by a councillor.

Steve Pullen described as “mind-boggling” the disgusting attack at the playground between Spring Avenue and Royd House Road.

Coun Pullen, who represents Keighley East Ward on Bradford Council, said he had never come across such an incident before.

He added: “I think it’s disgraceful – someone must have a sick mind to do that to a children’s playground.”

Bradford Council acted swiftly this week when it received reports of the potentially dangerous mess on the swings and slide.

Workers were immediately dispatched to clean equipment, and council wardens were drafted into patrol the play area.

Keighley mother Anne Hunt-ley told the Keighley News of her horror at finding the mess on Monday morning while walking through the play area with her children.

She was taking Hannah, ten, and Callum, six, to their childminder in Long Lee, and made the grim discovery while taking a shortcut across the play area.

She said: “From the moment I stepped off the footpath, the place was littered with nappy sacks people had used for dog muck.

“Owners had obviously cleaned up after their dogs and put the bags in the bin, but someone had pulled the mess out and thrown it around.

“It looked like it was deliberate – like they’d stamped on it and put the mess up the slide.”

A Bradford Council spokesman confirmed the dog muck attack had been reported to its recreation officers.

She said: “They cleaned it up as soon as they knew about it. They have asked the community wardens to keep an eye on the place.”
