Emma-Jayne Waters is the third woman in her family to dress as a man and head east in search of treasure!
As young adventurer Aladdin, she has taken on the same pantomime role her mother, Alison Waters, twice played.
And Emma-Jayne’s grandma, Doreen Smith, has also played a heroic young man from the East with the same theatre group.
Emma-Jayne will continue the family tradition next week when she plays the title role in this year’s Sutton’s Green Hut Theatre Company panto.
Like her mother and grandmother, she first trod the boards with the group – until this year known as Sutton Amateurs – as a child.
Doreen was the principal girl for several years until 1978, and among her roles was Sinbad in one of several pantos.
She said: “I did principal boy on and off for a few years. Alison was principal girl the first time we did Aladdin in 1996.”
Alison continues to perform in musicals and plays with Green Hut, while Emma-Jayne made her debut as principal boy two years ago in Puss In Boots.
Aladdin is staged at Sutton Village Hall from Wednesday to Saturday next week at 7.15pm, and on the Saturday at 2.15pm. Tickets are available from Londis Stores in Main Street, Sutton, or by calling (01535) 632289.
