A woman fainted with pain after her finger was dislocated by her daughter’s boyfriend in a squabble over a set of keys, Skipton magistrates heard.

Anne Neville also suffered a bite to her wrist and her daughter, Kennedy Brumfitt, received a black eye.

Kane Booker attacked Miss Neville in the car park at Greenroyd Mill, Sutton-in-Craven, pulling her hand through a steel fence, bending her finger and dislocating it.

The assault was sparked by an incident about her daughter’s keys, which had been taken by Booker during a row in which she was punched in the face.

Booker, 21, was found guilty of assault causing actual bodily harm to Miss Neville and to assault on Kennedy Brumfitt on January 13 this year.

Miss Brumfitt had given Booker a lift from Cross Hills Social Club to Greenroyd Mill, where they were neighbours in the same block of apartments. Miss Neville said she had heard a disturbance in the early hours of Sunday morning and went into the car park to learn Booker had taken her daughter’s apartment keys.

She was injured as she stood behind a fence, and Booker pulled her hand through the railings. “He bit my hand and dislocated my finger. I was in shock and blacked out,” she said.

Miss Brumfitt had been punched by Booker when she demanded the return of her keys.

The 21 year-old claimed he was the victim and had been attacked by Anne Neville, who was angry he had taken her daughter’s keys.

He said the injuries came as he held her off with his hands around her wrists, and Miss Brumfitt was hurt as he fended her away.

But the Bench found him guilty, telling him the only plausible explanation for Miss Neville’s injuries was his attack on her, and that “you were not simply acting in self-defence”.

Sentence was adjourned until next Friday, December 6 for reports to be prepared and he was remanded on conditional bail.
