An elderly woman was left shaken but uninjured following a chip pan fire at a house in Oldfield.

Fire engines from Keighley and Haworth responded to the incident in Pickles Hill at 9pm last Thursday night.

Keighley station watch commander Andy Quinn said the chip pan caught alight after it had been left unattended.

The female occupant of the property was able to put the flames out herself in the kitchen sink, but added heat and smoke damage was caused to a window and part of the ceiling.

“Apart from being a bit shaken up, the woman wasn’t injured,” he said. “When we arrived, there was still smoke in the house so we got a ventilation van going to get rid of it.

“The property did have a smoke alarm fitted, and that had worked.”

Mr Quinn added he and his colleagues remained at the scene for about an hour.
