Parts of historic Haworth village are becoming increasingly cluttered with unsightly and potentially hazardous advertising boards, according to some residents.
Justin Ponter, of Sun Street, and another man who asked not to be named, voiced their concerns at Haworth, Cross Roads and Stanbury Parish Council meeting on Monday.
Mr Ponter said he was particularly concerned about the number of obstructive boards being placed in Main Street.
“It’s not just the ‘A’ boards – it’s also these vinyl banners being put up on fences, buildings, street furniture, even in the church graveyard,” he said. “It’s just ridiculous.”
Council chairman Councillor John Huxley said: “We’re been increasingly aware as a community of the number of A boards. Of course, businesses are trying to drive people into their shops, but I think there does need to be some sort of controls in place.”
He added district council officers would require as much evidence as possible – including photographic evidence –- to enable them to take action.
Speaking outside the meeting, Mr Ponter added: “With the community events taking place in Haworth at weekends, Main Street has been very busy. Unless something is done about these boards, there will be a serious accident.”
