An investigation has been launched into the ‘illegal’ parking of a Bradford Council vehicle in a Keighley town centre street, following a complaint from a local business owner.

Property agent Grant Doyle took this picture of a council van parked on white zig-zag lines near a pedestrian crossing in Cavendish Street on November 15.

“This is punishable by three points, but it’s one rule for some and another rule for others,” he said.

Allan Stobbs a senior manager in Bradford Council’s financial department, said: “Drivers of our council vehicles must abide by the same parking restrictions as all road users.

“I have therefore initiated an investigation into the parking of this vehicle. In the meantime, all staff in the team concerned have been reminded of their responsibilities.”

Mr Doyle, who has recently taken over a business premises in Cavendish Street, said he saw a pair of council workers park the van on the zig-zag lines at about midday. He claims they then left it there for about half-an-hour.

“I’ve had many parking tickets myself just for stopping outside my business when I need to pop into the office to pick something up,” he said.

“If the council is going to be so zealous, it should at least be setting an example.”
