A Co-operative Society grant will help people appreciate and enjoy a community garden outside a Keighley church.
The organisation has provided £1,418 from its community funds pot for All Saints’ Church in Highfield.
Shann Park resident Dorothy Grant, the churchwarden, applied for the money on behalf of the church earlier this year.
“The garden is used by children who play there, but not so much by older people because at the moment there’s nowhere for them to sit,” she explained.
Part of the grant will therefore be spent on a new wrought-iron bench, which is currently being made by the firm Aire Valley Forge. The bench is due to be installed in the garden in the next two to three weeks.
Mrs Grant said some of the cash will also be spent on repairing gates to the garden. This work will be completed by the same firm making the bench.
The grant money was officially presented to the church on Friday morning.
