I was saddened to see in this week’s Keighley News our Conservative MP Kris Hopkins and Worth Valley councillors have taken the opportunity to condemn the proposed cuts in council services, and their description of these as ‘politically-motivated’ and proposed with ‘little or no concern for residents living outside that party’s (Labour’s) political heartlands – MP supports toilets appeal (November 21).

While I agree cuts in council services are to be greatly regretted, I am surprised these sentiments are expressed by our MP and Worth Valley councillors, as they are from the very political party that has imposed these cuts on all of us living in the district.

Furthermore, the national Conservative-led government has already imposed cuts to the council of £147 per person in Keighley and the rest of our district, while they have limited cuts to councils in the more affluent South to a mere £20 per person. Surely, this is the major injustice we are facing in Keighley!

Why hasn’t our MP, who is meant to represent our interests, stood up for us in Parliament? Why has he agreed to this gross injustice for the people he is meant to represent? Finally, all of these politicians seem to assume ward areas are made up of total Labour voters or total Tory voters. They should be representing everyone who lives in their constituency or ward, not only those who vote Conservative. Does this imply when he was leader of Bradford Council, Kris Hopkins favoured areas and communities he deemed to be Tory voters at the expense of the rest? I wonder.
