A campaign is underway to try and get a footpath leading to Redcar Tarn, initiated by Harry Plunkett. I have donated towards this project, and believe the footpath ought to be a first step towards improving pedestrian safety and making the Tarn more accessible.
If the Tarn could be doubled in size by utilising some of the adjacent land, it would truly justify the large number of visitors.
I live in Shann Avenue, close to the proposed footpath, and am witness not only to the large number of pedestrians but also the drivers that visit the waterhole.
A larger Tarn would truly be a unique spectacle.
There is an innate attraction within many of us for the aquatic, and it may be born out of the fact we evolved from water (the primordial soup) billions of years ago.
Unhealthy living is a scourge of the modern age, and anything we can do to promote exercise is a very good thing.
