Members of a riding group based at the St Ives Estate in Harden raised hundreds of pounds to help pay for the shoeing of their horses.

Riders at St Ives (Bingley) Riding for the Disabled were sponsored to complete an obstacle course during their normal weekly lessons.

Group treasurer Barbara Chuter said: “Despite the wind, rain and occasional sun, a great time was had by all.

“Our thanks go to Nelsons builders merchants, which rushed to our rescue by delivering three tonnes of quarry waste to fill a hole at the bottom of our mounting block and access track, which had been flooded by storms.

“So far we’ve raised an amazing £696, with more still to come. It costs between £60 and £70 to shoe a horse, and as the farrier comes every couple of months, it’s easy to see how costs mount up.

“Our riders really responded to the challenge, and we are very grateful. Our farrier bill for our four horses is now covered for the next six months.”
