A Keighley pub landlord can now toast much more than just the good health of his customers.

Mickey Thompson has qualified as a Love Celebrant, and is fully licensed not just for the sale of alcohol, but also to conduct weddings, funerals and baptisms.

Ceremonies can also include namings of babies, pets and even businesses after becoming a member of the Fellowship of Professional Celebrants.

Mine host at the Great Northern pub in Halifax Road, Ingrow, is willing to conduct services anywhere, from his own watering hole to the wild Bronte moors. He has trained with the Fellow-ship to carry out ceremonies in whatever form, location and costume his clients want.

He said: “I can hold a ceremony in whatever style people want, such as a football or pagan theme.

“I think the Great Northern is the first pub in West Yorkshire where you can do the whole package, but we can also do it outdoors, from the Bronte Waterfall to Ilkley Moor.”

“The opportunities are endless. Why not get married when the Tour de France is in town or on New Year’s Eve at midnight?”

Mickey stressed clients would still need to fulfil any legal requirements of their ceremony, such as visiting a registry office when getting married.

But he can take care of all public aspects of the ceremony.

Mickey, who has appeared on many TV dramas and films, including the Harry Potter series, said many of his fellow actors held similar part-time roles.

But he believes he is one of only two love celebrants in West Yorkshire.

The Fellowship of Professional Celebrants said its members’ services are ideal for people who want wedding or civil partnership ceremonies that are not traditional or mass-produced.

Celebrants can also conduct funerals that respect people of all faiths or those with none, and baby naming ceremonies as an alternative to religious baptisms.
