Keighley MP Kris Hopkins believes an independent review of cigarette packaging is the “right and responsible” approach.
He praised last week’s announcement by Health Minister, Jane Ellison, to launch the review in England.
The minister said standardised tobacco packaging would be introduced after the review if ministers were satisfied there was a public health benefit.
Mr Hopkins said: “I believe it is the duty of any government to do what it can to protect the health of the people it serves.”
