A prominent feature of the Keighley skyline has vanished following the removal of two giant radio masts from the moor above Riddlesden.
After decades dominating the horizon at Keighley Gate in Ilkley Road, the masts have been dismantled during the past few weeks as they no longer serve the needs of West Yorkshire Police.
“The masts and other buildings were on land leased from Yorkshire Water for a number of years, but now we are using the new Airwave network we don’t need them anymore,” a police spokesman said. “This is a new digital system, which is dedicated exclusively to the emergency services.
“As we no longer need the mast, and as part of the contract with Yorkshire Water, the site has now been restored to its original state.”
