Next year’s Haworth 1940s Weekend promises to have a distinctly French flavour.

The event, which is being organised by the Soldiers, Sailors & Airmen’s Families Association (SSAFA), will mark the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings and the battle for Normandy.

Haworth trader Nikki Carroll, who was present at a meeting last week with SSAFA representatives to discuss the weekend, said one part of the occasion would also commemorate the centenary of the beginning of the First World War.

She said: “It was a very constructive meeting and I’m confident that SSAFA, with the military contacts they have, will be able to take the weekend to a whole new level.

“It should be a fantastic success, and different to what we’ve seen before, but SSAFA are still keen for this to be a community-led event.

“SSAFA will use the Parsonage car park again like we did this year, as that proved extremely useful, and they’ll also make full use of Haworth Central Park.”
