Airedale Hospital patients will be accommodated in surroundings that are more ‘dementia-friendly’.

Director of operations, Stacey Hunter, said ward four is receiving investment to make it appropriate for people with this condition.

Commenting at the latest Airedale NHS Foundation Trust board meeting, nursing director, Rob Dearden, said the hospital does minimise the number of times people with dementia are moved around. Ms Hunter said: “We have restrictions on the number of times a patient will be asked to move, and they are not moved at times of day they they’re more likely to be disorientated. Our ward teams have got very slick at handling these moves.”
