40 new jobs on way as burger chain moves in to Keighley

Burger King is to open in Keighley, creating 40 jobs.

The fast-food chain will move into the Airedale Shopping Centre later this month.

It will take over a 2,000 sq ft unit, next to Marks & Spencer and Beales department store.

Gavin Ingram, for centre landlord LaSalle Investment Management, said: “We are committed to offering more visitor choice at the Airedale Centre and we welcome the arrival of such an established international brand.”

Steve Seymour, manager of the shopping centre, said the news was a “game changer” for the precinct.

“It will help us to substantially grow our food offering and we are delighted,” he told us.

“Burger King’s arrival is the result of lots of hard work behind the scenes to improve the shopping centre for the more than eight million shoppers who pass through our doors every year.

“We already have a great retail mix here, with high street giants such as Marks & Spencer, Argos, Next, Boots and New Look, along with valued independents.”

In fairness, there wont be another junk-food outlet for a good 30 yards or more. So its not as if theres over-kill here.

More employment and potential reason that visitors may stay in the centre.

I'm not saying that the food is the healthiest around but it's one less empty unit.

The jobs "created" will be part time low paid jobs mainly for young people who will stick it for at best a couple of months. These are sustainable jobs for people who have families to support or who are looking to make a career for themselves.

Schroeder, I take it from your comment that you won't be dining at BK then?
It'll be no worse than the scrotes who frequent Wilsons chippy (formerly known as Brooks) now that place is full of the odds and sods of life, and a few are the staff!

One shouldn't make assumptions Shauny-Boy, or going by your name, I'd have to assume you're a 'scrote', as you so eloquently put it.

Not a very nice thing to say shauny about the people who frequent the chippy. Your phrase odds and sods, especially the sod part caused uproar on another thread currently running under, letters have undermined credibility of the Council. Mr Pullen seemed to take great offence to that word, but he has a point,it will be one less empty unit.
Personally I prefer fish and chips to burgers but then it is a matter of choice.

From someone who has a serial killer as a username, I find it strange that you pull me up on mine.
I personally am not one of the aforementioned 'scrotes' (my definition of a scrote is someone who spends all day everyday in the Chavendish or Last Orders) I work six days a week so to be honest I don't frequent Wilsons chippy, but obviously with the rawness of your nerve that I touched then it appears you most definitely do.
