Staff and residents at Anchor’s Townend Close care home in Cross Hills got together to help Samaritan’s Purse with its Christmas shoebox gift appeal.

They wrapped their shoeboxes in colourful Christmas paper and filled the boxes with small gifts such as toys, hats, scarves and clothing.

Business manager Sharon Mackie said: “We all really wanted to get involved in the shoebox appeal. We thought it would be great to give a small gift to children less fortunate and wanted to make a special connection with a child overseas.

“The residents really enjoyed wrapping the shoeboxes and filling them with gifts. Such events are important for older people’s physical and mental wellbeing, as well as being a lot of fun.”
