A school cookery club has won recognition for exceeding all the targets set by the initiative that helped it get started.
The group at Holy Family Catholic School in Keighley has received accreditation from a scheme called Let’s Get Cooking.
Club leader, Sheila Hastings, explained: “The club was established with a seed-corn grant from Let’s Get Cooking. It gave us targets such as so many children being club members and so many public events to be held in the first year.
“Our students were so enthusiastic that once I knew we’d met our commitments under the grant, I stopped keeping count of what we’d achieved.
“So it was a lovely surprise to get the letter and certificate from Let’s Get Cooking listing all we’d done.”
The club meets weekly after school hours and covers a wide range of cooking and baking skills.
Members have also gained an impressive reputation for their catering ability, having organised buffets at several public events. Their latest venture saw them helping host a healthy eating day for Keighley primary school children.
