A senior councillor has taken a dim view of delays in repairing a faulty street light.

Worth Valley councillor Glen Miller – Tory group leader on Bradford Council – said residents in Providence Crescent, Oakworth, first reported the problem on October 21.

Ward councillors stepped in when concerns were raised about the length of time it was taking to fix the light.

Coun Miller says he exchanged several e-mails with the local authority’s street lighting department, which assured him the work would be carried out by November 29.

“The work was finally completed last Wednesday, almost six and a half weeks since it was first reported,” he said. “This is another example of how council services are failing in rural areas.”

Julian Jackson, the council’s assistant director of planning, transportation and highways, said: “Over the last few weeks we have received an unprecedented amount of calls about faults with street lighting and the sheer number has led to delays in fixing them as quickly as we would like. We can only apologise for the amount of time it has taken to get to the lights in Providence Crescent fixed.”
