People are being urged to give their views on planned changes to children’s centre provision.

A series of events is being held across the district to enable residents, community representatives, centre staff and partner organisations to comment.

The proposals set out how the centres would operate in the face of a proposed budget reduction of £2.4 million by 2016.

The Keighley News has previously reported how two centres – Daisy Chain in Silsden and Treetops at Haworth – face having their funding withdrawn.

Councillor Ralph Berry, the council’s executive member for children’s services, said: “We need to make sure we use the resources that will be available to us in the future as effectively as we can, and this consultation is an important way of assessing what members of the public see as important.”

A session is being held at Central Hall in Alice Street, Keighley, from noon to 1.30pm today, for centre staff.

Partners and stakeholders are invited to a meeting at Central Hall on January 8, from 10am to noon, and two public sessions are planned in the town – at Keighley Library on January 9 (1pm to 4pm) and Keighley Civic Centre on January 13 (9.30am to 11am).
