Oxenhope-based community groups have applied for shares of £1,000 worth of funding offered by the village’s parish council.

The council has allowed organisations to request sums of up to £250. The deadline for applications expired earlier this month.

Oxenhope Parish Council chairman Councillor Tony Maw said about eight groups had put in bids for cash.

He said there would be a meeting in mid-February to decide how the money should be allocated. Members of the public will be invited to vote on the distribution of the grants.

Coun Maw added an exact date, time and venue has still to be confirmed. “We’re working out a system by which people can vote in a fair manner,” he said. “We would also like to have involvement from people who aren’t part of the groups that have applied for the money. But the process has yet to be finalised.”
