Oldfield man in angry row over dumped soil pile

Keighley News: John Collinson stands by the pile of rubble dumped on a footpath in Oldfield, which he says Bradford Council should remove John Collinson stands by the pile of rubble dumped on a footpath in Oldfield, which he says Bradford Council should remove

An Oldfield man is angry Bradford Council will not remove a pile of soil dumped near his home.

John Collinson claims the rubble was dropped by Council contractors at the entrance to an overgrown footpath in Oldfield Lane.

But the Council insists it is not to blame for the fly-tipping, and that its extensive investigations have failed to identify who dumped it.

Mr Collinson believes whether or not the Council is responsible, it still has a duty to remove it.

Mr Collinson, of Oldfield Lane, said the pile appeared last summer around the time work was being carried out at nearby Oldfield Primary School.

He added: “Nobody actually witnessed it being left there.

“The Council has no interest in doing anything about it. It’s not going to admit it.

“The pile is earth and a few stones. It’s about a metre high by the width of the track, and would fit in a big skip.

“It’s blocking what should be a public right of way. It’s the entrance to an old green lane.”

Several months ago Mr Collinson enlisted the help of Bradford councillor Rebecca Poulsen (Con, Worth Valley).

Coun Poulsen told the Keighley News she had repeatedly been in touch with several Council departments, and they had carried out extensive investigations.

She added: “All parties except Mr Collinson are adamant it’s not from contractors. There is no proof contractors have done it.”

Coun Poulsen had asked the rights-of-way department to clear the soil because it provides access to a footpath, currently overgrown.

But she said: “This one isn’t a priority to clear. There is another footpath nearby that goes on the same route and is better maintained.”

A Bradford Council spokesman said: “The soil was there before any work started on the school. The contractor who carried out the soil stripping is a farmer, and he put it on his land.”

Indeed, why should the council remove it?
Get some mates up with a shovel and a pick, or even the ramblers association and get stuck in!
Happy New Year!!

My monies on the council contractors fly-tipping it. Obviously they are not going to admit it to any 'investigation', are they!

I have personally witnessed, and reported council workers/contractors dumping spent tarmac in bushes. Unbelievably, when ' looked into' by the council, they could not be certain of the people responsible. They were saying they did not know who the four blokes were that were working on a slip road into town with wagons, rollers etc. one Bank Holiday! Thats council investigations for you in a nutshell.

How many councillors were investigating I wonder?
They'd need a few just to hold each others clip boards!
