More than 50 firefighters have been tackling an overnight blaze in Keighley.

Nine crews were called to a derelict snooker club in Grange Street and police have evacuated neighbouring homes and those in Wren Street and Linnet Street.

Bradford Council was to open Keighley Leisure Centre for people to go to, under its emergency planning procedures, but a spokesman for West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said that operation was thought to have been stood down when a nearby mosque and Asda cafe were opened.

Firefighters were called to the 60m by 30m, three storey building at 4.04am and crews from Keighley, Bingley, Haworth, Silsden, Shipley, Illingworth, Batley, Dewsbury and Bradford have been at the scene.

Police have put several road closures in place including Lawkholme Lane, which is shut in both directions.

The fire service is expected to be there for several hours.

No injuries have been reported and a fire investigator will be asked to probe the cause.

Gas and electricity companies have also been informed.
