Haworth Parish Church’s magazine has ceased production after 114 years.

The final edition of the magazine – covering December and January 2013/14 – has been printed, and the publication’s last editor – Jackie Rolston – has stepped down after 30 years at the helm.

John Huxley, secretary of the parochial church council, emphasised he and his colleagues still intend to ensure people remain informed about church activities.

“We decided the magazine had reached the end of the line, and this coincided with the fact its last editor had retired after many years,” he said.

“The magazine didn’t really have a very wide circulation – it was only available in the church – and it was one expense we didn’t need if it was no longer doing the job it was intended to do.

“We’re now looking at other ways of distributing information, such as social media or maybe a quarterly magazine instead.”

The original magazine started in January 1899, and was published ten times a year.

Mrs Rolston, who lives in the Brow area of Haworth, began editing the title in 1983. “Sometimes it could be hard work getting all the material in time,” she said.

“They’re looking into more up-to-date ways of giving people information. Everything changes.”
