With reference your report – ‘Council tax rise warning’ (Keighley News, December 19) – could someone with the relevant knowledge from Keighley Town Council please answer the following questions, which will be of interest to everyone who will be affected by yet another proposed massive precept rise?

Rather than the ridiculous statement blaming legitimate enquiries by members of the public for this huge rise, could you please explain how the Civic Centre is being funded? If there are no tenants, no income and a receptionist’s salary to pay, where is the money for the continued running costs of the centre coming from? We were assured there would not be a precept rise for the ongoing upkeep of this building, and that it would be self-funding. If it is losing money, then why is it not up for sale to recoup some of those losses and ensure no further drain on the public purse?

People of Keighley will not continually accept precept rises without wanting answers as to where the money is going and why.
