Re Councillor Sally Walker’s statement – ‘Council tax rise warning’ (Keighley News, December 19).
As a founder member of the group that worked to give Keighley a unified voice and the formation of the town council, one of the main requirements was the council would be open and honest with the electorate.
In the early days of 2002-2011, I believe the council did indeed work well for Keighley parish. Sadly, the aspirations of some councillors far outgrew their capabilities to run Keighley Town Council’s affairs, and the white elephant Civic Centre was born.
I believe these empire-builders had no idea about what the cost of running a public building was. In these hard times, every local authority in the land is making cuts in jobs and services, so what does Keighley Town Council do? It creates more jobs and wants to increase its precept once again.
Surely now is the time to say enough, call for the resignation of these decision-makers and try and sort out the mess?
Councillor Brian Hudson Fell Lane and Westburn ward
