Dozens of older people enjoyed a festive spread laid on by Keighley Town Council.

They were invited to attend the Christmas lunch for pensioners, staged in the North Street Civic Centre – the first event of its kind organised by the local authority.

Town clerk, Miggy Bailey, said: “We had a wonderful lunch with more than 80 pensioners attending – they thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

“We had music, singing by Coun Margaret Ward and Christmas crackers. It was highly successful and very much appreciated by older members of the community.”

The lunch took place in the civic centre’s function room.

Mrs Bailey said elderly couples were also welcome to attend, but explained the occasion was particularly targeted at single pensioners who might otherwise have been spending Christmas alone, as well as armed forces veterans.

“It’s definitely something we’d like to do again in future,” she added.
