New Year blues on Keighley pub’s menu

Top folk acts will perform the first music night of the New Year at the Great Northern.

Rum Doodle will headline tomorrow’s concert at the Ingrow pub, with support from Jon Harvison.

The show is the latest in the monthly Blues and Roots programme organised by Keighley singer Ben ‘Blue’ Waters.

Ben said Rum Doodle presented a mix of original and cover songs using two acoustic guitars.

He said the two musicians performed deceptively simple, evocative songs in the folk tradition.

He said: “The level of musicianship is highly skilled, and the voice is strong and clear.

“They sing about the towns and countryside of Yorkshire, forgotten languages of the UK and the beauty of England, evoking both nostalgia and pride.”

Ben said Jon had a rich, powerful voice, a tasty guitar technique and a mildly wicked sense of humour.

“He is a brilliant songwriter, whose material has been adopted by many luminaries of the festival and recording scenes,” he added.

“He is also a fine interpreter of the traditional repertoire, and his programmes move seamlessly between the different forms.”
