A prominent member of the British Muslim community has opened a new diner-style restaurant in Keighley.
Lord Altaf Sheikh was invited to officially launch Desi Diner in North Street.
He is the chairman of the Conservative Muslim Forum, and also founded the Sheikh Abdullah Foundation, which helps people with cancer and victims of natural disasters.
Dozens of guests were present at the diner’s launch last month, which was also attended by Lord Sheikh’s wife, Shahida. The business is owned by Showfield resident Chaudhry Ghulam Rasool and managed by his son, Shahid Rasool. It first opened its doors to customers in late November.
The Rasools said they were keen to offer local people a day-time alternative to fast-food takeaways in the town centre. The diner currently operates from noon to 11pm, though its owners plan to expand its hours to allow it to offer breakfasts.
Mr Rasool senior added: “The opening went very well, plenty of people came along and we received a letter of thanks from Lord Sheikh afterwards.”
