Sainsbury’s could resurrect plans for extension of Keighley store

First published in News

Sainsbury’s is set to resurrect plans for an extension of its Keighley store.

The company this week remained tight-lipped about its intentions and denied there was any immediate proposal.

But the supermarket giant added that it was constantly reviewing provision at its sites – including the Cavendish Street building, which has not been significantly changed since it opened 30 years ago.

A spokesman told us: “We keep our store portfolio under review to ensure it provides the best possible range of goods for local people and are always looking for appropriate opportunities to extend, refurbish or improve our outlets.

“We don’t have a particular schedule at the moment for work on the Keighley store but will keep the community updated if any decision is made.”

Sainsbury’s put forward plans for a £5 million refurbishment and expansion of the Keighley premises in 2009 when Asda opened a new superstore a stone’s throw away.

The proposals included a new mezzanine-level restaurant, a side extension and new glazed entrance lobby. Planning permission for the extension was granted by Bradford Council in March that year but the scheme didn’t go ahead. The approval expired after three years.

Come on Mark, it can't be a proper Post Office if there's no queuing.

Hmm, good point. But they could follow Morrisons line and shut tills at busy times. That would cure it.
